Single Device Solution for Wireless Extension of Ethernet with End-to-End OAM

Currently, any carrier, service provider, system integrator or enterprise needing a wireless Ethernet solution supporting end-to-end Ethernet OAM has make do with a multiple box solution consisting of network termination units (NTUs) for demarcation and service delivery and a wireless Ethernet bridge. This type of solution raises several issues. The devices have to be tested and configured for interoperability prior to deployment. Should problems arise after field deployment, they are more difficult to pinpoint and troubleshoot. RAD Data Communications offers a unique, single box approach for wireless transport of Ethernet with QoS. This device, known as the Wireless RICi, builds on the carrier Ethernet access capabilities of RAD's RICi-4/8/16 converters along with the transmission features and functionality of RAD's Airmux-200 wireless multiplexer. Critically important, Wireless RICi supports a broad range of transmission rates, 2 Mbps, 8 Mbps and 18 Mbps, guaranteeing a bandwidth suitable for any application.

What is RAD's Wireless RICi?

RAD's Wireless RICi devices are network termination units (NTU) or demarcation devices used to deploy mid-band and Fast Ethernet services over one, four, eight or up to 16* bonded E1 or T1 circuits. Wireless RICi provides an intelligent, easily managed and affordable solution to transport Ethernet services over SDH/SONET, while ensuring reliable QoS and remote management capabilities. The Wireless RICi unit can also come equipped with an ODU and integrated antenna, making this is a fully integrated solution, unique in the market. The Wireless RICi provides a battery of Ethernet OAM features designed to improve service delivery while lowering operating expenses. Ethernet OAM based on IEEE 802.1ag / ITU Y.1731 and 802.3ah enables end-to-end fault monitoring and performance measurements. In addition, the user can define QoS priority queues according to the application requirements. Wireless RICi supports standard protocols including Generic Framing Procedure (GFP-G.8040) and HDLC, which improve Ethernet utilization of E1/T1timeslots, facilitate data transmission at a constant bit rate, and enable the device to interoperate with third-party devices. The latter is particularly important when installing the Wireless RICi in an established network. To round out the system, RAD's Egate-100 Ethernet to TDM gateway is deployed at the central site, interconnecting TDM and packet networks. Together these products provide a full access solution from the service provider central site to the customer premises.

What is RAD's Airmux-200?

The Airmux-200 wireless multiplexer is a carrier-class, high capacity cost effective point-to-point system for connecting Ethernet and E1/T1 circuits between two distant sites over broadband wireless. Transmitting over 5.X GHz, 4.9 GHz, 2.3 and 2.4 GHz license-exempt bands, the Airmux-200 has an air interface data rate of 48 Mbps, with a theoretical maximum transmission distance of up to 80 kilometers (50 miles). Transmission is encrypted to ensure security. * The total available bandwidth of the Wireless RICi-16 will be no more than 18Mbps
