RAD's VDSL Modem Drives Data Rates up to 10 MbpsAchieves Greater Range Than Other VDSL Products on the MarketRAD Data Communications introduces the ASM-60 4-wire, symmetrical VDSL-based modem, with selective data rates of 4, 6 and 10 Mbps, to meet the demand for increased bandwidth in the Local Loop and the corporate campus environment. Sophisticated Filters Drive DataThe device works in a pair configuration between sites. Sophisticated filters enable the ASM-60 to transport data over a range that is far greater than that which would be possible using other VDSL products on the market. The ASM-60 achieves distances of up to 2.1 km (1.3 miles) at rates of 4 Mbps over 4-wire, 24 AWG cable, and up to 1.9 km (1.2 miles) at rates of 10 Mbps. The high speeds enable LAN users at both sites to work as if they were on the same LAN. The ASM-60 uses QAM technology and offers various interfaces, including HSSI and Ethernet. Low Cost Broadband AccessThe new modem offers carriers and corporate users the benefits of broadband access over existing copper infrastructure throughout most of the Last Mile coverage area and within enterprise campuses. “Business applications will, out of necessity, demand symmetrical bandwidth, extended distance and rate-adaptive technologies,” says RAD Product Manager Meira Erez. “RAD’s new modems cover longer distances than competing products and at a lower cost,” Erez explains. “RAD’s new broadband DSL modems may prove to be the impetus for a new ‘copper revolution’ in Local Loop services.” |
