The LTU-2 line termination unit connects local equipment, such as PBXs and E1 multiplexers, to the E1 public network with complete network protection. In addition, it provides line power feeding for G.703 repeaters such as the RPT-O. When coupled with four repeaters, the LTU-2 extends an E1 line up to 10 km (6.25 miles).The LTU-2 meets all the requirements of ITU G.703, and is compatible with almost all PTT- provided E1 services. Surge and line protection circuitry is provided, complying with ITU K.17.The LTU-2 supports up to 45 dB of attenuation at 1,024 kbps (half the E1 bit rate). For 22 gauge cable this represents a distance of 2.2 km (1.4 miles) between two repeaters.The LTU-2 features V.54 diagnostic capabilities to perform local analog loopback and remote digital loopback. An internal test pattern can be generated to provide complete end-to-end integrity testing. An error LED indicates bit errors. Front panel jacks allow easy access for more extensive testing with external test equipment.The LTU-2 is available as a desktop unit.
