The S-TAU and SLIM-TAU provide the physical and electrical interconnection between workstations and a Token Ring network. They are wiring concentrators offering a star-shaped ring topology, supporting up to eight users. Insert and bypass functions are provided in the units. Insertion of a workstation into the ring can be initiated at any time by simply inserting the data connector. Activity LEDs indicate when the connected station is inserted into the ring. Bypassing a workstation is carried out automatically when a data connector is unplugged from the unit or when the workstation is inactive. The S-TAU has several built-in options, such as fibre optic repeater (TFR), fibre optic converter (TFC) and copper repeaters (TCR), allowing increased distance between the S-TAU units over copper or fibre optic lines. The S-TAU and SLIM-TAU operate without an external power supply. They are 1U high and available for a 19" rack-mount. The SLIM-TAU unit is exceptionally compact, measuring only 2.5 cm (1 inch) deep.
